Making Marks

I used pencil in varying different holds. Holding at the end I felt I had the least control.  Pressing hard a darker and thicker line is produce.  With thumb on top was easier for thick shading lines.  I am most used to pencils and could get the most contrast with them.

I have not really used graphite sticks before but really liked them and found that I could get very fine lines with them as well as a block of colour.
The conte crayon, pastels and charcoal are of varying degrees of softness and how much they smudged and moved across the paper was interesting.

I enjoyed this exercise and it helped increase my understanding of the differences in the mediums used.
